ORPHAN SUNDAY IS NOVEMBER 11, 2018 Orphan Sunday's history stems from a Church in Africa. While most people associate the term "orphan" with fatherless children in third world countries, their is increasing understanding of the fact that there are orphans within our own communities. The children within our foster care system are the fatherless among us. We believe that God never intended the government to care for His children... it is The Church's responsibility. Therefore, on Orphan Sunday, churches all over Texas will engage in their own teachings of God's heart for the orphan in what we are calling The James 1:27 Initiative.
What you choose to do on Orphan Sunday can be unique to your church. Many pastors request photos from the Hearts of Hope Adoption Gallery to align their foyer; others provide information of their church's efforts and interests in international orphan ministries; some highlight their foster care/orphan ministries and honor their foster/adopt families. Whatever you do, it is important to provide a 'next step'. This year, Orphan Care Solutions of Texas and our foster care stakeholder partners will provide information as to how the Christian community can engage and be a part of improving the lives of Texas' foster children.
